Whilst 2020 has seemingly been a career-defining year for Abra Cadabra, those already familiar with the rapper would be more relieved than surprised. Emerging from the notorious Broadwater Farm Estate in Tottenham, North London, alongside fellow rappers Headie One, RV & rap collective OFB, Abra Cadabra, known in the scene as ‘Abz’, is no stranger to the game. Though now, we’re really beginning to feel the force of the rappers aggressive versatility. With a string of tracks including his first Top 40 Single ‘On Deck’ and his debut charting mixtape ‘Product Of My Environment’, Abra is here to stay.

Whilst Abra has been around the scene for the better half of a decade already with his fellow Tottenham compatriots Kush, Lowkey, Blitty (OFB), it was back in 2016 when he took the game by storm with his ‘BlackBox Freestyle’ displaying both his versatility and ferociousness. Increasingly encouraged to further the pursuit of music and seeing the possibilities of success it could bring, Abra continued and before long, his breakout single ‘Robbery’ was brought to the attention of rap duo Krept & Konan who soon jumped on the remix. This followed by an instant certified banger in ‘Dun Talking’ with fellow artist of Ghanaian-heritage Kojo Funds catapulted Abra to the heights of UK Rap in 2016 and as a result won him both the Best Song MOBO and GRM Rated Award Track of The Year for the Robbery Remix, which has now amassed over 25 Million views.

Off the back of 2016’s successes, Abra continued to drip-feed the game with singles throughout the following few years, with 2017’s “My Hood” featuring Sneakbo, “Art of War”, and “Stay” featuring Danzey. 2018 brought us “Hood Politics” and the EP “Feature Boy” in which Abra combines his cultural influences and delivers 5 tracks displaying his multifaceted vocal ability. Though his consistent presence was lacking, Abra returned again in February 2020, this time for good, for his now regular Valentines spot with another 5-track EP “LOL: Love Or Lust?” featuring long-time collaborator Kush and multi-genre South East London artist Odeal.

Abra’s 2020 has thus far proven to be the epitome of consistency. After releasing the “Cadabra Freestyle”, Abra came with an onslaught of singles and collaborations which shook the scene from “Crash It” with Mastermind, “New Opp Block” with K-Trap to the unforgiving “Spin This Coupe” and of course “On Deck” which saw a highly energetic Abra performance at the GRM Rated Awards 2020 as well as earning him the nod for MOBO 2020 Song Of The Year nomination. With it all being part of the plan, Abra didn’t calm down from there, lending his voice on the OFB track “BLM” (Black Lives Matter) released during Black History Month in the UK following a year of social and political unrest. The track sees Abra go bar for bar with fellow Tottenham and OFB rappers Badokay and Double Lz, detailing their experiences on an issue all too close to home for Abra.

The release of his debut mixtape ‘Product Of My Environment’ landed Abra his first UK Top 40 project and has drawn a new line under his fully fledged return to the game. It serves as his statement of intent and ability, further asserting his presence and direction towards the helm of UK music. His work rate and motivation are no longer in question. The music is authentic, documenting his experiences and emotions, and in his own words, “allows you to connect with where I’m coming from”. It’s AB in the building and he’s back like he never left.
